Our early 2019 trend predictions

29th April 2019

For those savvy shoppers out there, who start planning & spending early. Or just those looking to have a snoop so you’re in the know. Here’s our really early Christmas trend report for this year.

Metallic is in. We seem to be slowly moving away from the shiny glossy baubles and over the last couple of years colours like rose gold, copper and bronze have been creeping onto our trees. Keep to the warmer tones, especially during the cold season. Replacing those old traditional Christmas reds with a stylish copper colours will really help set the mood.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Move away from those whites and silver and chose something bold, dark and moody. Deep colours are bang on trend in the interior design world and a deep colour on your tree will be well suited on those dark nights. Dark blues, deep greens and purples will be sure to bring a cosiness to your home this Christmas.

Add lots of interest. Patterns and texture add interest more specifically – dots and lines. This is again a trend that follows the interior design world, herringbone flooring is everywhere, so add lines to your décor. Also, polka dots tend to draw the eye to them. I’ve seen many hand-blown glass baubles with beautiful effects of either of the above trends. Add that to the bold colours of above and you’ll have a theme to die for!

Dig out those old ornaments. I’ve seen this trend growing slowly over the last few years. Christmas is a celebration of tradition and family and I know you have a box of old ornaments somewhere in the attic. Vintage will always be a trend that’s appreciated, and the old family ornaments will not only add a rustic style to your home but also create great talking points for family and friends that visit.

For those that Instagram. Making your own decorations is very in at the moment. I saw this a great deal on the social medias over the last few months. It’s not about saving money – It’s about bragging rights! Get down to your local florist, garden centre or out in the local forest and create your own table centre piece or better yet your own beautiful door wreath.

When you’re done, stand back, take a photo and post it for the world to see!

Warm white lights everywhere! I’ve been campaigning this for years now and finally people are taking note. Traditional warm white is in, cold/ice white is out! Use lights everywhere, not just on your trees. Hang them, swag them, drape them even use them in stand-alone displays. Lights are going to be bigger than ever this year.

Use all the senses. Christmas has always been about the lights and sounds with our beautiful Christmas trees and Mr Bing singing in the corner on the old record player. This year be sure to add smell and touch to the list using scented candles and those interesting ornaments listed above. Even add beautiful textured throws and cushions around the home for the holidays. After all the family is going to need somewhere to cuddle up and nap after the diner is done.

These are only our predicitons for this year and of course as the big day draws near other ideas will come to life. We’ll be sure to update you on any tip and tricks we come across.
